My Mindful Morning Ritual for a Positive Day

I strongly believe how you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. Every dawn brings a new opportunity to be more conscious, grateful, & successful. It is another chance to manifest your dreams & become a better version of yourself. Research has shown that individuals who spend their mornings with a humbling mindful ritual have an increased sense of well-being & higher productivity rates. If you wake up early with a positive mindset, I can guarantee you will have a pretty great day!

Let the Light Shine In

I like to sleep facing east so that the sun shines through the window & I can wake to natural light. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, surrounded by nothing but trees, I am accustomed to an alarm of chirping birds. Nature was reliable & never failed to go off at every sunrise. If you don’t have access to the call of the wild, try sleeping with your curtains open. Set an alarm that gradually plays soothing nature sounds to make your morning a more pleasurable experience.

“The day will be what you make it, so rise like the sun & burn.”

William Hannan

Wake Up, But Take Your Time

Before I open my eyes, I will stretch out my limbs, sending positive energy down to my fingers & toes. While I’m still in bed, I will do a couple supine twists to restore my spine’s natural range of motion. Warming up my body with gentle movements & whispering words of gratitude feel like little love notes to my soul. This quiet moment also provides my inner self an awareness of “being inside my body.”

Around this time my Yorkie mix, Yogi, will be waking up as well. I expect him to find his way through the covers to shower my face with his sweet morning kisses. This is also my daily reminder that he needs food.

Hydrate Your Body

Upon rising, I start drinking a cup of water with lemon slices I had prepared the night before. Not only is this a great way to hydrate the body after hours of sleep, it also acts as a natural cleanse. Drinking water helps get the systems going & eliminates toxins that may have accumulated overnight. This simple concoction is also high in pectin, which helps curb your morning hunger pangs. Once I finish my dose of vitamin C, I pour hot water into my cup to brew dandelion root or matcha tea.

Salute the Sun

With my steaming cup in hand, I make my way towards the window to get a view of the mountains. I open the window wide & breathe in the crisp morning air which brings a sense of renewal & vitality. After I take a couple more sips & savor the liquid warmth, I begin easing my body into a slow yoga flow. Usually my practice is accompanied by meditative breathing exercises to help realign my thoughts & goals for the day. My willpower is strongest in the morning so I take advantage of this moment. If I don’t have time for a full practice, I will perform a few gentle stretches to thank my body for what it may encounter in the hours ahead.

Notice Your Breath

My breathing is usually in sync with the movements of my flow. But sometimes when I have a lot on my mind with mental to-do lists or nagging what-ifs, I have to remind myself to return back to the present. Taking just five minutes to meditate & focus on your breaths can enhance self-confidence & optimistic thinking. Try sitting quietly still & imagine yourself in the center of the universe, wrapped in a blanket of unconditional love. With this kind of feeling you can take on any challenge the day has in store for you!

Set Positive Affirmations

As my mindful morning ritual comes to a close, I place my hand over my heart & make mental notes of what I will accomplish that day. I will repeat positive affirmations like a mantra to transform my thoughts into intentions. If you only have time for one ritual practice, I recommend spending a couple minutes to acknowledge your higher purpose for the day & look forward to its great outcomes. You may also try identifying three things you are grateful for to help start the morning with satisfying abundance.

“Be thankful for what you have…you’ll end up having more.

If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”

Oprah

I love embracing this sacred time & keeping it to myself while everyone else is still in deep slumber. It allows me to begin my morning with intention & a clarity of purpose. There is nothing quite like these first few moments of the day when you can appreciate the beauty of the present. I hope you can take some of my tips to make your next morning a glorious one!
